Carolyn Jack of the Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote in her 1994 review, Saved or Destroyed cannot be listened to simply as theater while Kondoleon’s death is yet so fresh. Over time, its elements may prove too many and its noise too harsh. But for now, the silence when it stops is shattering” (E10). Six years later New York Times theater Critic Ben Brantley reiterated the power of Kondoleon’s final play, stating that it was “essential viewing for any lover of theater” (E1).
