"Latest in the morning papers from Nashville state our loss 3000 killed & missing 7000 wounded rebel loss more than double rebels retreating & Rosecrans pursuing near Tullahoma Col Carter reported to have destroyed large no of railroad bridges east of Knoxville thus cutting off Richmond from the west" Telegram received, ibid. ; ibid., RG 107, Telegrams Collected (Unbound). On Jan. 9, Fuller telegraphed to USG.
