Your report of transportation shows over sixteen hundred teams in the Dept. It is impossible to supply the necessary transportation for the Armies in Tennessee in time for spring operations. Can you not send the mules of five hundred of your teams to Louisville at once? Send all you can.

I can & will send all mules I can to Louisville. On April 9, 10:30 P. M., USG telegraphed to Brig. Gen. Robert Allen. "The whole of transportation on hand in the Dept of Missouri shows sixteen hundred and fifty (1650) teams besides Ambalances Of this number they ought to spare five hundred (500) at least if you want that elsewhere." On April 25, Rosecrans telegraphed to USG. "Col. Myers reports that fifteen hundred and twenty Mules can be spared from

Department transportation. Many of these must be replaced as soon as the wants at Nashville are supplied. In ten days from April 21st Col M will have shipped to Nashville four 4 thousand 4000 Mueles, and six hundred 600 Artillery horses."
