Howard, Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, and Elliott. DLC-USG, V, 37. On March 13, Hooker wrote to Stanton submitting a slightly revised copy of his report, dated Feb. 4. O. R., I, xxxi, part 2, 313-25. On March 25, USG, Culpeper Court-House, Va., endorsed this report. "Respect- fully forwarded to Maj. Gen. H. W. Halleck, Washington D C. I know of no objection to the substitution of this for Maj. Gen. Hookers original report of his operations in the battle of Chattanooga. Attention is called to that part of the re- port giving from the reports of his subordinate commanders, the number of prisoners and small arms captured, which is greater than the number really captured by the whole Army" ES, DNA, RG 94, War Records Office, Union Battle Reports. O.R., I, xxxi, part 2, 325. On March 26, Townsend wrote to USG. "A Resolution of Congress calls for your report of Battle of Chattanooga—The report of General Hooker which I handed you the other day in the Secretary's office is one of the sub-reports-Can I get it—and is it to be sent with yours? Grant directs me to say that Gen Hookers report of the battle of Chattanooga will be sent up to morrow & that it should accompany his report."
