Headquarters United States Forces|
Ironton, Mo., August 9. 1861|
|CAPT. J. C. KELTON|
|ASST. ADJT. GEN. WESTERN DEPARTMENT|
|ST. LOUIS, Mo.|
Upon taking command here (being without a staff) I detailed Lieutenant M. S. Hasie of the 4th Regiment Reserve Corps as Acting Assistant Adjutant General, and Lieutenant J. H. Holman as Acting Aid-de-Camp
These two officers belong to a regiment whose term of service has now expired, and I would respectfully ask if they can be retained temporarily in the position assigned them and be entitled to pay. Lieutenant Holman is an Engineer, and if he can be attached to my Staff in that capacity, I would esteem it as a favor.
