Herewith please find requisition of the 21st Ill Vols. for arms forwarded for the approval of Gen Fremont; The 21st Ill Vols marched from Springfield on the 3d of July with 500 old muskets altered to percussion, expecting to stop at Quincy, where they could be fully equipped Taking the field however immediately upon arrival at Quincy and being kept upon the go ever since there has been no opportunity since of attending to this.
The Regiment is now armed with 500 muskets old patterns altered to perc 84 Harpers Ferry Rifles borrowed from Col Palmer; and the ballance muskets same as first mentioned borrowed from the State of Ill.
I would respectfully request that the Ordnance Department be directed to furnish suitable arms for this Regiment.
