SPECIAL ORDERS |
The Troops now at Fort Holt Ky, with the exception of the
24th Ill Vol Col Hecker commanding, the detachment of artillery
and Capt Delano's
1 company of Cavalry will march tomorrow
and take position at Fort Jefferson Ky.
Colonel Ross will select the position for the camp establish
guards and make all needful regulations for the new camp
The movement will be protected from the water by Gun Boat

When Commander John Rodgers purchased the steamer A. O. Tyler for
conversion to a gunboat, he suggested that a change of name to "Taylor" might
be auspicious. O. R. (Navy), I, xxii, 283. He based his recommendation on the
decision of former President John Tyler to support the Confederacy. The gun-
boat was known officially as Tyler, but Rodger's recommendation was not entirely
ignored: there are frequent references to the gunboat as "Taylor" in military
