Checklist of Editorial Preferences
The checklist on the following pages presents a range of common variants in editorial style in three categories:
1. Mechanics
2. Formatting
3. Documentation

The checklist can be used both as a training tool and as an adjunct to the copyeditor's style sheet. A copyeditor who is about to begin a project for a new publisher can ask the editorial coordinator to complete the checklist according to house style. Freelance copyeditors who work for several publishers can maintain a checklist for each—a convenient way to keep track of variations in house style. The checklist can also be used by an editorial coordinator in preparing a list of do's and don'ts or an informal tipsheet for in-house and freelance copyeditors.
