This chapter is designed to broaden our perspective about selecting leadership talent in business environments that are continuing to evolve and change. We will examine how assumptions about the individual and the organization have changed, focusing on both the planning and implementation process used for senior-level staffing.
As other chapters in this book have noted, traditional assumptions behind the identification and nurturing of talent are being questioned as organizations, the business environment, and the leadership challenges faced have changed. Increased globalization, competitive pressures, technological advancement, and the information explosion represent some of the many changes that force companies to reexamine how they go about acquiring or building leadership talent.
