Good practice indicators from WAFEThe good practice indicators have been written to provide standards through which organizations can check their domestic violence service developments. The indicators are provisional with room for more specific refinements in the future. Framework of indicatorsA definition of domestic violence, which sets the parameters for policy and practice development in the organization and in the multi-agency context. 1 Definitions need to:
|a) acknowledge diversity, acknowledge the gendered nature of domestic violence and include different types of abuse; |
2 Monitoring and screening for domestic violence through:
|b) provide recognition of domestic violence as an abuse of power and control of one person by another. |
|a) systematic screening, using a protocol of questions which emphasize particular behaviours, rather than initially asking directly about domestic violence; |
|b) mechanisms for recording domestic violence; |
|c) guidance and supervision for front-line practitioners; |
|d) training associated with the introduction of screening and monitoring; |
3 Policies and guidelines which provide a framework for the work to be undertakenPolicies need to:
|e) feedback mechanisms for using the monitoring data. |
|a) emphasize safety and clarify issues of confidentiality; |
|b) give attention to diversity and equalities issues; |
