This chapter will examine each of these frameworks and consider how they relate to one another.
In many ways, the most straightforward position to take in respect of school sex education is that it should not occur. For example, an article in Family Matters, the newsletter of the Conservative Family Campaign, states that:
Under the banner of education, teachers have become seducers-corrupters of innocence who usher young people into forbidden sexual experiences that lead to teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexual diseases, and mental and emotional problems.
The main point made by those who believe that school sex education should not take place is that sex education is the responsibility of parents. Schools, it may be argued, do not have the right to deal with such matters. Nor do they have the abilities. All too often, it is maintained, schools adopt an amoral, or even an immoral, approach.
