Herbert of Romans
SERMON IV
For the preaching of the cross against the Saracens
1. It must be noted that there are six [reasons] which should cause [people] to take the cross against the Saracens: the first is zeal for divine honour, the second is zeal for the Christian law, the third is brotherly love, the fourth is devotion to the Holy Land, the fifth is the example of those who went before, the sixth is the status of this war.
2. Subject matter for the above. Theme: Isaiah 6: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of hosts. See the work 'About the Preaching of the Cross against the Saracens'.1
