managements will not join in the scheme, and participating managements which have seats to sell insist that their availability is not made too public. So people queuing tend to learn quite late, from a small notice, which shows are selling cheap seats that day, and there is no indication what may be on sale on subsequent days. It does, however, fill theatres for shows that may be going through a difficult time temporarily. And for most managements selling 'half-price' is worthwhile, even though it cuts something from the receipts. By contrast an unsold seat is an irretrievable loss.
