FLEXIBILITY

Flexibility is like a cat who hunts for mice in a
variety of locations. The cat increases the like-
lihood of finding a good dinner by being willing
to move on and search other places, rather than
waiting by a single mouse hole. Flexible think-
ing increases the probability of success because
it encourages the selection of ideas from many
different categories or perspectives.


Definition and Explanation

Flexibility is [the ability to take different approaches to a problem, think of ideas in different categories, or view a situation from several perspectives] (Davis and Rimm 1994, 189).
