Target area: Listening and paying
attention (Skill Area 1)

Session aims and preparation

Key learning aims
Students:Develop a concept of good listening skills, understanding the difference between good and bad listening
Start to listen actively to other people, paying attention to what they are saying
Show good listening by providing relevant responses to questions or comments

General aims
Students:Begin to feel relaxed in the group setting Learn the names of other participants, if there are unfamiliar pupils (e.g. from a different class) in the group Have fun

Link area of PSHE and Citizenship Curriculum

Students build effective relationships by developing listening
skills


Materials needed

Beanbag, tape recorder, sounds tape (any commercially available
tape with sound effects will do), Pupil Compliments Sheets
(ideally A2-sized pieces of white paper)


Suggested additional materials

Hats and scarves for role-play
