Target area: Listening and turn-taking
(Skill Areas 1 and 2)

Session aims and preparation

Key learning aims
Students:Demonstrate active listening skills by giving relevant responses to questions and comments
Develop further reciprocity of conversation (turn-taking skills)

General aims
Students:Feel relaxed in the group setting
Learn the names of other participants, if there are unfamiliar pupils (e.g. from a different class) in the group
Have fun in the group

Link area of PSHE and Citizenship Curriculum

Students build effective relationships through being able to
listen to others and to recognize feelings in others. Students
develop independence and responsibility by recognizing how
their own behaviour affects others.


Materials needed

Beanbag, colouring sheets for each pupil and model coloured
sheets prepared by teacher, colouring pencils, Pupil
Compliments Sheets


Suggested additional materials

Hats and scarves for role-play
