While the staging phase involved team preparation and primarily process-related issues, the aligning phase focuses the Discovery team on the content of the initiative. Where should the team begin to explore for the best new business opportunities? What new areas are most consistent with the mission, strategy, or capabilities of the organization? What are the company's “strategic frontiers”?The Aligning Phase consists of two important activities:
1. Identifying the company's strategic frontiers.
2. Aligning with senior management on the proposed strategic frontiers to be explored.
