Glossary of Terms
This chapter defines many of the terms used throughout the book. The terms are words some readers may have forgotten or never understood completely.
An action verb tells what the subject does. It is also called a transitive verb, and it takes a direct object.
Doris reads novels.
Alvin sawed the board.
Bob caught a fish.

A word that modifies, that is, describes or limits nouns and pronouns.
A word that modifies verbs, adjectives, other adverbs or complete sentences. It usually tells how, how much, how often, when, where and why.
