This book is the result of many dedicated persons believing in the need to draw attention to the health needs and issues among incarcerated women. A debt of gratitude is due to our families, who provided encouragement and support during the various stages of this project. We are especially thankful to our many graduate students at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University, who provided research assistance during the final stages of this effort. They include Tracy Louden, Nancy Sprauve, Margaret Farrow, Temituoyo Louis, and Lashawnda Lindsey. We are also grateful for the technical support provided by Richard Gooden during the conceptual stages of the project and Vanessa Braithwaite's efforts during the final editing stage. This project would not have come to fruition without the clerical support provided by Keisha Marshall and Betty Stevens. Lastly, we express sincere appreciation to Audra Wolfe at Rutgers University Press. Without her untiring efforts, this book would not have seen the light.
