The rise of technology in America occurred during a most dynamic period in the history of the United States. Certainly, innovators such as Ben Franklin with his many inventions including bifocals, the lightening rod, the Franklin stove, and an odometer sowed the initial seeds of America’s technology prowess prior to the Revolutionary War and afterwards. Other examples include James Fitch’s invention of the steamboat in 1787 and Eli Whitney’s invention of the cotton gin in 1793.
