Those of us who have watched the XFX original series “The Shield,” starring Michael Chiklis, hope and pray that this infamous drama was only an exaggerated view of the life of a police officer and police activity in general. It may come as a shock, therefore, to realize that there are police departments that actually operate in much the same manner as “the barn” and “the strike team”. The LAPD, for example, is frequently branded as one of the most corrupt police departments in the country. This is particularly evident when one evaluates the case of Officer Rafael Perez, whose arrest led to one of the most notable police scandals in the history of the country.
