Li Keqiang, 1955–, Chinese political leader. He became a member of the Communist party while performing manual labor in the countryside during the Cultural Revolution. Li joined the Communist Youth League's central secretariat in 1983, becoming general secretary (1993–98). He was governor of Henan prov. (1998–2003) and chaired the Henan people's congress (2003–5) and Liaonong people's congress (2005–7). Named (2007) to the standing committee of the politburo, he became first vice premier of China in 2008. He succeeded Wen Jiabao as premier in 2013.
