Lindenhurst to Use Recycling Carts

Lindenhurst residents tired of lugging those little blue bins to the curb each week can now breathe easier.
The recycling containers will soon be a thing of the past as 48- gallon carts with lids and wheels are taking their place in the recycling evolution.
Lindenhurst officials and cart supporters believe the change will spur an increase in recycling as well as maintain the aesthetic appearance of the village by cutting back on flyaway litter.
"Right now, most people are using either one or two 18-gallon bins," said Village Administrator Jim Stevens. "Study results in this county show about an average of 20 to 25 percent increase in recyclables because of the larger container. That is really significant."
Earlier this week, Lindenhurst officials agreed to move ahead with plans to use the carts. They will soon formally amend their contract with Mundelein-based Jensen Disposal Service to order and distribute the new containers. Residents would get new containers in the upcoming months. …
