Gordon Reports Big Gains on Tourism Volunteerism

Department of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Richard Gordon recently lauded the efforts of tourism volunteers who have actively supported DoTs many projects and programs at the International Association for Volunteer Efforts (IAVE) Asia Regional Volunteer Conference held at the Manila Hotel.
Gordon, who is the honorary chairman and guest speaker during the conference, said, Along with the spirit of volunteerism is the strong will for change and the will to triumph over barriers.
Despite budget constraints, Gordon lauded volunteerism efforts of the Volunteers for Intramuros Preservation (VIP) in DoT undertakings inside the historic walled city of Intramuros. The VIP extended assistance in the beautification and cleanliness programs within the walls as well as providing uniforms for the vendors and other staff within the Visit Philippines 2003/WOW Philippines activity area and Clamshell tent.
The group also led the lighting project where 1,000 new lamp posts were installed along its busy streets.
Gordon extended his gratitude to the local officials and sellers who supported and participated in the Best of the Regions series in Intramuros since it was started last February.
Volunteerism was also behind the success of the countrys winning of the coveted International Float Category and Participation Awards in the recently concluded West Japan Midosuji Parade in Osaka.
