One of the teams in Friday night's Jacksonville Barracudas-Lakeland Loggerheads game is in first place of the WHA2, and the other is in last.
A quick glance at the league standings shows that it's the Barracudas sitting in first, but for anyone watching Friday night's game, it looked as if Lakeland was the first-place team. The Loggerheads beat the Barracudas 4-2 in front of 3,611 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
Jacksonville had plenty of scoring chances but could never seem to get the right bounce and Lakeland took full advantage. The loss snapped the Barracudas' five-game winning streak and their 13-game home winning streak.
The last home-ice loss for Jacksonville (23-10-1) came in a 6-2 decision to Miami on Nov. 28, in the Barracudas' home opener.
It was just the second road win of the season for Lakeland (7-23-5).
"Tonight was just one of those nights," Jacksonville coach Ron Duguay said. "I could kind of see it coming. We just didn't get the breaks that we usually get."
One reason the 'Cudas didn't get the breaks was Loggerheads goalie Tyler Murray. He stopped 29 shots, including a penalty shot by Kory Baker halfway through the third period with Lakeland leading 3-1.
Jacksonville cut Lakeland's two-goal lead to one with 6 minutes to play when Justin Hellegards fired a slap shot past Murray following a faceoff.
