ROTARY HONORS PERRY

The Rotary Club of South Jacksonville presented its 2004 Frank W. Sherman Award to Robert Perry on Jan. 27 at its weekly meeting at the Radisson Riverwalk Hotel. The award recognizes a Rotarian of significant accomplishment in Rotary service, along with successes in his/her business or profession, and is named after late charter President Frank W. Sherman.

Perry is a member of Southpoint Rotary Club and is active with the district foundation committee. A certified public accountant and attorney, he also is a U.S. Naval reserve commander who has commanded Inshore Boat Unit 28 and Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit and now commands Personnel Mobilization Team 3208. Activated in early 2001 after the attack on the USS Cole, his unit provided protection for the harbor at Jebal Ali, United Arab Emirates. Recalled in October 2001 as Navy Region Southeast Antiterrorism Force Protection officer, his group covered all Navy activities in seven states, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

Perry has been awarded two Navy Commendation medals and two Meritorious Service medals and served on active duty all but two months from September 1999 through September 2003.
