A Spectacular Show of Colour

Byline: By Linda Richards

Some spectacular floral displays are awaiting the thousands of visitors set to visit one of the North East's top horticultural events.

Easter is traditionally the start of the gardening season and there are ideas aplenty to be picked up at this weekend's 14th Gateshead Spring Flower Show.

Doors opened at 10am today at the Central Nursery, Whickham Highway, Lobley Hill, and Gateshead Council, the organiser of the three-day show, is expecting visitor numbers to top the 23,000 who turned up last year.

Visitors who are looking to transform their gardens will be spoilt for choice as they browse around the 240,000sq ft tented village of fantastic floral displays.

There are demonstrations throughout the three days, offering helpful hints and advice, including a question-and-answer session. Advice on a range of topics, including preparing hanging baskets, annuals and perennials, is on hand, and there's an illustrated talk on the history of the tulip.
