Go HEAD TO HEAD with the Music Industry
Music industry experts will be coming together on Tyneside to share their collective knowledge in the Head to Head Open Day, part of Orange Mission: Music ( a series of initiatives designed by Generator to promote popular music in the north.
Taking place at the Hyena Cafe and Bar XS in Newcastle, Head to Head is a free one-day regional music industry conference which offers opportunities for musicians and music entrepreneurs of all stripes and categories to interact in an optimistic and constructive atmosphere.
The day, which begins at 11am on Wednesday, April 28, will provide a fantastic networking opportunity to encourage interaction between the music communities in the North East and the wider national music industry.
Senior project co-ordinator at Generator Jim Mawdsley will present his update on Generator's national music network and web resource META.
It provides a one-stop point of information about everything you've ever wanted to know about the music industry, from practical info on venues and touring to music business contacts and funding opportunities.
This session will give anyone interested in the region's music industry/ live scene a chance to air their grievances and meet new people to share solutions to the problems they encounter in developing their music.
The conference will also include a panel discussion entitled The State of Play, held with record company A&R, who will give straight-forward responses to questions and concerns.
The aim is to demystify industry areas such as A&R, publishing, distributions, contracts, and investigate ways of creating positive links between the local, regional and national music industry.
Leading music professionals will offer their views on who is being signed, what record companies are looking for and what they expect to see from a band before taking them seriously.
Confirmed panel members to date include:
