Reid: I Chose Tottenham Because They Play the Right Way

Byline: RAOUL SIMONS

ANDY REID believes his international experience with the Republic of Ireland leaves him well equipped to handle the demands of the Premiership.

The 22-year-old, signed by Tottenham this week from Nottingham Forest for [pounds sterling]4.7million, is expected to make his debut in tomorrow's home clash with Portsmouth.

Velimir Zajec's side are undoubtedly a class above Brighton - Reid's last league opponents in a Forest shirt - but 11 Ireland caps, including appearances against Holland and world champions Brazil, will help him keep a sense of perspective.

He said: "There is going to be a step up, I have had a bit of taste for that on the international scene. It's now up to me to progress the way I believe that I can.

"In football terms, Nottingham Forest was the only way of life I had known since the age of 14, but I never doubted I wanted to play in the Premiership."

Reid's move to Spurs, concluded in an [pounds sterling]8m double deal with Michael Dawson, dragged on for more than a year. But while the clubs argued over the fee, Reid was convinced his future lay in north London.

He said: "I think everyone knew I had set my heart on Tottenham. They showed interest in me for such a long time. It's such a big club and the way they like to play football is important.
