Stadium 'To Bring Streets to Standstill'

PEOPLE have ridiculed and rejected proposals drawn up to manage traffic on matchdays at Coventry City's new stadium.
Longford councillors and residents criticised the so-called green travel plan at a public meeting and asked for a rethink.
The plan contains proposals put together by stadium bosses and Coventry City Council to ensure the areas surrounding the pounds 113million stadium are not gridlocked when the Sky Blues are playing and on concert nights.
Arena Coventry, due to open in August, has a capacity of 32,000, but its car park has space for only 1,900 cars, of which 200 spaces are for the disabled.
The rest of people who go to the venue by car are expected to use park and-walk or park-and-ride official sites offered from venues ranging from schools to industrial estates.
But people who live near the stadium fear that despite plans to introduce residents' parking permits, drivers will just head for the nearest street, causing parking chaos. …
