GMA Programs Win Awards from US Int'l Film and Video Festival


Once again, GMA News & Public Affairs programs have been recognized by the US International Film and Video Festival with one of the worlds highest honors in audio visual competition.

A total of seven GMA News and Public Affairs programs were chosen from more than 1,300 entries from 30 countries for this years competition. The awards will be given out on June 4 in Los Angeles, California.

To receive the festivals highest honor, the Gold Camera Award, is Rhea Santos "At Your Service" under the Community Development genre for its "Under The Sea" special which showed residents of a fishing community being taught how to build an artificial coral reef and given alternative means of livelihood.

To receive the Certificate for Creative Excellence are "Debate with Mare and Pare" for Politics, Government, World Relations, and Civics; "Extra Challenge" for Entertainment; "i-Witness: The GMA Documentaries" and "Imbestigador" for Documentary; "Kay Susan Tayo" for How To and Instructional; and "Wish Ko Lang!" for Motivational and Inspirational genre.

Now on its 38th year, the US International Film and Video Festival Awards is one of the worlds leading international events devoted exclusively to the yearly selection and recognition of outstanding business, television, documentary, entertainment, industrial and informational productions.

Nina at Music Museum

Amidst her busy schedule, "Soul Siren" Nina wants to have fun with her fans and so she has set a major concert at the Music Museum on May 27-28. Aptly titled "Nina Just Wanna Have Fun," the concert will be Ninas first major solo outing following her Valentine concert the Folk Arts Theater last February.

As the title of the concert suggests, Nina will get to run around, jump, dance, laugh and do all the things you dont normally see her do in her live performances. And just to give people an idea of what to expect, one of the numbers will have her and special guest Nyoy Volante doing a mambo dance to the tune of Gloria Estefans "Turn the Beat Around." Nyoy, by the way, will also the shows musical director.

"Im just going to have fun onstage. Makikita nila ako dito na gumagalaw at sumasayaw talaga," Nina said. She will be backed up by the Groove Manila dancers.

Joining Nina in her concert are her brother King and classing singer Lemuel dela Cruz.

According to the director of the concert, Ernie Duque, "Nina Just Wanna Have Fun" will "reinvent Nina and present her differently this time as a total performer." Nina will also have the chance to display her skills as a musician as she plays the piano and percussion instruments.

Ninas album "Nina Live" set a record of sort when it turned triple platinum just a little over two months its release. She has two Best New Artists Awards, three albums, countless No. 1 videos and singles, and the first ever DVD album for a local artist under her belt all of which point to the fact that she is, without doubt, one of the busiest artists in todays local music scene.

If they see Nina these days, people cant fail to congratulate her for her song/single "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways" which has turned triple platinum. She did not have any high expectations about the album, she said, but "Id like to thank my fans and supporters for making my song very successful." "Love Moves in Mysterious Ways" is the carrier single of her third album.

"Im happy right now," Nina said, "and not because Im in love." She has been rumored to be Jimmy Bondocs girlfriend but this Nina denied this. "Sobra lang kaming close as friends," she said. "I consider him my special friend because I can tell her my problems and secrets. Close kami dahil we started in the music industry together..."

Nina, who is Nina Girado in real life, stressed that her focus these days is her career. …
