07/07: War on Britain: Bob and Bono Say Thanks to the Mirror

Byline: EXCLUSIVE by ROS WYNNE-JONES

LIVE 8 heroes Bono and Sir Bob Geldof yesterday applauded the G8 decision on aid and debt relief - and praised Daily Mirror readers for helping to make it happen.

Bono said: "Daily Mirror readers are as much to thank for today's achievements as anyone else, by demonstrating their huge capacity to care."

Sir Bob agreed in typical Geldof language, saying: "Your readers have won a f***ing great justice. None of this would have happened without the support of ordinary people.

"Daily Mirror readers have been fantastic. Every single leader has said to us that the level of debate within this country is extraordinary."

A saddened but determined Bono and an impassioned Sir Bob spoke exclusively to the Daily Mirror in Gleneagles in the wake of the terrorist atrocities in London.

Bono said: "What happened in London shocked everyone. People are in shock, but there is a determination now to represent ourselves to the world as people who value human life unlike those responsible for yesterday, who do not. That is the contrast between yesterday and today. Today is a day for victory.

"We have achieved most of what the Africa Commission set out to achieve.

"And our message is this: We are in the business of saving lives, not wasting them. We don't kill the poor, we feed the poor.
