THEIR dedication to upholding the law is legendary.

So when a Scottish judge was offered an expensespaid trip to Paris to help settle a court case, he could not refuse.

Lord Macphail had the chance to hear evidence in the bizarre case between an African chief and his former mistress via video-link.

But, deciding that ' credibility and reliability' might be important, he accepted the offer of a trip to the French capital instead.

The unusual move emerged yesterday when wealthy Chief Oladeinde Fernandez offered to bring the judge to his chateau to help settle the row.
