Football: Ferguson Gets Lifted by Songs of Praise; BOHEMIANS V UCD
Byline: By DANIEL McDONNELL
IT made a nice change for Barry Ferguson when he heard Bohemians fans singing his name in praise last Friday.
And the close-season signing, who scored his first goal for the club in that 2-1 win over Dublin City, is hoping to give the Gypsies faithful more to cheer when UCD visit Phibsborough tonight.
Ferguson was one of the most unpopular opposition players when he visited Dalymount Park as a Longford Town player - but now he hopes that he has the fans of his new employers on his side.
"It's funny alright, normally I wouldn't be allowed too close to the touchline at Dalymount when I was with Longford but they've been good to me since I've come here so hopefully it continues," smiles the 26-year-old.
"I scored here a few times against them in Dalymount and a few times in Longford as well and that didn't make me too popular.
"But hopefully scoring my first goal last week is a sign of things to come and I'm delighted with that."
And Ferguson hopes that his exploits will be worthy of a new song.
The Bohs fans sang his name last week alright, but the unprintable lyrics basically joked that the big defender wasn't as bad as he used to be. …
