County Officials Want Buildings Centralized

Kane County government facilities should be centralized at the judicial center in St. Charles Township, with satellite buildings in Aurora and Elgin instead of spread throughout the county, officials said at a planning retreat Friday.
The county government's main campus is located on Batavia Avenue in Geneva, but the civil courthouse is on Third Street in downtown Geneva and the criminal courthouse is on Route 38 and Peck Road in St. Charles Township.
Additional health department clinics and branch courts are located in Aurora and Elgin, among other municipalities.
The decentralization of services makes it hard for the average resident to navigate county government, officials agreed.
"We need to think about housing our services," board Chairman Karen McConnaughay said. "Are our locations in the right spot? Should we invest in other properties?"
