The multi-billion-dollar deal between Riyadh and London for the sale of 72 Typhoon fighter jets is the high-water mark in relations between the two kingdoms (see Defence, page 42). It lays the foundations for further political and economic collaboration for years to come and offers a gateway into the kingdom for British companies seeking to take advantage of the kingdom's booming economy.
It is a position that many other countries will be eyeing enviously. In January, Riyadh unveiled a $623,000 million infrastructure investment programme that presents enormous opportunities for international companies across all sectors. The Typhoon deal gives UK firms the chance to establish a foothold in the kingdom from which they can target these sectors.
