A CELEBRATION in danger of dying on its feet suddenly exploded like a champagnecork as Great Britain duly completed their first Test series 'whitewash' for 14years.
With the Gillette Fusion series already won, but the celebrations deliberatelydelayed until the Great Britain players had their hands on the AlbertBaskiville Trophy, the last thing the 21,235 crowd at Wigan's JJB Stadium lastnight expected was to see the chastened Kiwis race into a 12-0 lead.
Teenage debutant Chase Stanley scored the first try and Huddersfield-boundcentre Paul Whatuira the second. Jeremy Smith converted both.
But the Lions roused themselves to score 14 points in the last seven minutes ofthe first half and stay in front for the rest of the game.
The introduction of the St Helens pair James Roby and James Grahamand Graham's try within 20 seconds of coming onchanged everything.. on changed everything.
Graham dragged five Kiwis over with him and tries in the corner from Senior andthen David Hodgson on the hooter sent Britain in 14-12 ahead at the break.
Given the luxury of a winning 2-0 lead, Smith had wanted to give some of hisfringe players a run and would have made even more changes if his elderstatesmen had been prepared to rest.
