Tinga Seeks to Turn Taguig into 'Haven for Children and Youth'

Taguig Mayor Freddie R. Tinga has called on all city officials to work together in making Taguig a "true haven for the children and the youth" after the locality was recognized as one of the most child-friendly cities in the country.
"Our children are our greatest treasure and our greatest responsibility. Let us all work together in laying the foundation for them, not for the sake of receiving any award, but for the sake of giving them a better and brighter future," Tinga said.
Last week, the City of Taguig was awarded second place in the Highly Urbanized City Category of the National Capital Region (NCR) during the Presidential Award for the Most Child-Friendly City.
The award, given by the Office of the President's Council for the Welfare of Children, recognizes the vital role of local government units in the promotion and protection of children's rights.
Among the other awardees in NCR are the cities of Makati, Marikina and Malabon.
"It is safe to say that Taguig has been given this rare recognition because most of the city government's programs are aimed at giving a better living condition and ensuring a better future for our children," Tinga said.
During his recent State of the City Children Address, the mayor reported that more than 100,000 children have benefited from free vaccination and vitamin supplementation as part of the city government's health and nutrition projects.
