Oh, Christmas Trees!

Some are somber, some are whimsical.
Each of the decorated Christmas trees in Spring Park in Green Cove Springs reflects the intent of its sponsor, to remember a loved one, advertise a business or simply celebrate the holiday season.
Some of the trees are decorated with photos - of family, members of the military, historical buildings from Green Cove Springs' past.
A tree sponsored by a funeral home features large, colorful butterfly decorations. Another sponsored by a furniture store has miniature pieces of furniture hanging from its branches. Still another is festooned with a wide range of medical supplies, the kind sold by its sponsoring business.
The Parade of Trees, the brainchild of the Green Cove Springs Merchants Association, was designed as a fund-raiser and a way for residents to express themselves during the holiday season. The display is in Spring Park, located at Magnolia Avenue and Walnut Street, a block east of U.S. 17 on the St. Johns River.
A few of the display's 115 artificial trees are still available for "adoption" by individuals, families, businesses or schools. Fees range from $25 to $150. The Parade of Trees will be lit Friday, along with Green Cove Springs' community Christmas tree outside City Hall, and will remain on view through early January.
