Explore City of Versailles, France at Talk, Photo Show

Byline: Joanmarie Wermes

In a joint effort, the Hoffman Estates Arts, Celebrations and Sister Cities Commissions will present "Destination: Versailles," with an invitation to explore the French city.

Lee Krizka of the arts commission, Bev Romanoff of the celebrations commission, and Marcia Franks and Sharon Kimble of the sister cities commission collaborated on the program. The community is invited to attend from 1 to 3 p.m. May 3 in Room 105 of the Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center and Ice Arena, 1685 W. Higgins Road.

Speaker Kathleen Skolnik, an adjunct faculty member of the department of art history of Chicago's Roosevelt University, will show highlights of Versailles with a presentation featuring photography.

Skolnik is a past contributor to the Chicago Architects Oral History Project of the Architecture Department at the Art Institute of Chicago, and writes articles for the magazine of the Art Deco Society of Chicago. She collaborated with Dr. Robert Bruegmann of the University of Illinois at Chicago on a book concerning the late Chicago architect Harry Weese.

The arts commission is the recipient of the Illinois Arts Friendly Community Award from the Illinois Arts Alliance and the Illinois Municipal League, in recognition of achievement for using a community model of how mayors and leaders work with artists, art organizers and volunteers to improve the quality of life for residents.
