Workers in the Dark at Cash Crisis Firm; INDUSTRY: Plastics Company Tells Staff Not to Report for Work until Further Notice

Byline: By Christina Savvas

STAFF at a Coventry plastics company have been told not to report for work until further notice.

Workers at Plastic Products ABC Ltd in Blackhorse Road, Exhall, were shocked when they were handed letters this week telling them to go home as the company is in financial difficulties.

More than 25 employees are now left wondering whether they will get paid this month.

Alan Lewis, regional organiser for the T&G section of Unite trade union, which represents six members at the company, said: "The company can't do that. If people turn up for work they can expect to be paid. They can't just hang around for seven to 10 days. They need to know if they have a job or not.

"Our members are really anxious about what has happened. The company said it is having financial difficulties but if it is going into receivership we need to know so we can start the process to claim redundancy through the government scheme."

Plastic Products manufactures plastic moulders and vacuum formers and has been operating for more than 40 years. The company's website states it makes products for the telecommunications, casino equipment, medical, automotive, Formula 1 racing and defence industries.
