Audioconference to Examine the State of City Leadership for Children, Youth and Families
Karpman, Michael, Nation's Cities Weekly
Registration is now open for a flee, upcoming audioconference on "The State of City Leadership for Children, Youth and Families." Sponsored by NLC's Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute), the call will take place on Thursday, November 20, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
To register for this hour-long call or other talk show style discussions among city leaders, institute staff and policy experts, visit www.nlc.org/iyef.
The audioconference will offer a preview of a forthcoming YEF Institute report that will highlight cutting-edge innovations from cities across the country. The report will also document emerging and established trends in municipal leadership for children, youth and families in a broad range of areas, including early childhood success, education, afterschool, youth in transition, youth violence prevention, community wellness, youth civic engagement and family economic success.
A final section will address trends and pioneering initiatives to build community and create a local "infrastructure" for children, youth and family programs and policies, including changes in the structure of municipal government, unique partnerships for improving service delivery, innovative financing mechanisms and methods of measuring progress.
Because mayors and other municipal leaders benefit from adapting successful policies and programs from other cities for local use, the report will help city officials avoid "reinventing the wheel." Each section of the report will describe essential elements of local models to facilitate implementation or replication in other communities. …
