RP Team Seeks Better Finish in EAGA Sportsfest
Team Philippines, composed of selected athletes from Palawan and Mindanao, tries to improve its third place performance when it sees action in the 6th edition of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Areas (BIMP-EAGA) which opens on Nov. 28 to 30 in Brunei Darussalam.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman and delegation head William 'Butch' Ramirez will lead the 96-man Team Mindanao-Philippines in the Games considered vital in the government's effort to strengthen its relationship with neighboring countries and provide avenues for athletes to shine in the grassroots level.
"The BIMP-EAGA Games, actually, is the culmination of series of activities to strengthen the political and economic ties among four countries in the East ASEAN region.
"As partner in economic stability and progressive political affair, the government through the Philippine Sports Commission is backing the Games which is on its sixth edition," said Ramirez of the tournament, which the country hosted in 2001.
