Honest and Candid Life Story Celebrated Today; Grain Industry Identity Launches Autobiography

ROSE City residents are invited to the launch today of a book written by local identity Don McKechnie about his life.

Mr McKechnie and his wife Gloria moved to Warwick in April 2002 with the intention of retiring, but could not settle immediately into a life of leisure and so turned their energy into developing farms in the Allora and Warwick districts.

Mr McKechnie played a leading role in the Queensland and Australian grain industries for more than 30 years and was a director of the Port of Brisbane Corporation for 11 years and for much of that period was its deputy chairman.

He also gave several years of service as a director of the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority and QIDC.

Mr McKechnie's father Henry and brother Peter both served as state ministers while he was playing leading roles in the grain industry and as he recounts in the book, this did not make things easy for him or for them at times.

The book tells Mr McKechnie's life story spanning 70 years "in a down to earth and positive way" but also "honestly and candidly".
