Out of Town Kings; Northern Territory the Junior Development Carnival Champions

Byline: Ben Blomfield

CRICKET: Bundaberg batsman Matthew Fulton fired into the merit team after bruising bowlers in an enthralling five days of Under-15 Development Carnival cricket.

Matthew blasted 279 runs from five appearances for Bundaberg Maroon in the carnival at Salter Oval, which finished Thursday.

Northern Territory were crowned carnival champions after beating Brisbane North in the final.

Maroon coach and manager Gary Holloway endorsed Matthew as a player with a bright future.

"He's a class player, he's a player to watch in the future," Holloway said.

"He just showed his class by the runs he made.

"He's becoming a very good batsman, he can bowl and he's actually a very good wicket keeper."

The coach said his boys could be proud of their performances after they were given less than a week to prime themselves to plunder runs and wickets.

"The big thing is teams coming from out of town were handpicked, we normally only put one side in the carnival, but the Sunshine Coast pulled out so we put two teams in," he said.
