Art Theorists of the Italian Reaissance Now Available on CD-ROM from Chadwyck-Healey
Chadwyck-Healey has announced the release of Art Theorists of the Italian Renaissance (ATIR) on CD-ROM, the most extensive collection of Renaissance works on art, architecture, and related disciplines ever assembled, according to the company.
Art Theorists of the Italian Renaissance is a collection of 15th and 16th century treatises on art and architecture, structured around Giorgio's Vasari's Lives of the Artists and including the major works of the genre from Alberti's DePictura to lesser-known works such as Vespasiano's Le Vite.
This seminal work provides biographical information about artists, descriptions of painting and other works, explanations of the processes of creating works of art, and information about provenance. The accompanying treatises -- 52 in number -- explore many of the elements referred to in Lives and can be read in their entirety, complete with notes written by editors and translators.
Users can trace the occurrence of a word or concept within the descriptions of a selected artist or movement or across the entire database.
