Bertie's Director of Elocution Gives Cecelia's Wannabe Actor a Talking to; the Diary

WHEN the first suitors come courting their little girl, most fathers reach for the garlic and holy water. Potential sons-in-law are regarded with the sort of suspicion and loathing the rest of reserve for senior bank executives.
So it's good to see that David Keoghan, boyfriend of Cecelia Ahern and father-to-be of her pending arrival, is well on the way to becoming the son Bertie never had.
And what has forged this iron bond? A common passion for sports? A shared interest in politics and statecraft? Er, no. It seems de nortsoide taoiseach and de former nonOlympian have the same elocution teacher.
For years, Bertie has been attempting to modulate his 'dis, dat and d'udder' with private tutelage from Gaiety School of Acting director Patrick Sutton. The pair became so close that Bertie even took his voice guru as a personal guest to his historic Westminster address.
Now the long-suffering elocution teacher is helping Cecelia's chap fulfil his ambition of becoming an actor.
Last week, the millionaire chick-lit author announced she and David were expecting their first child at Christmas. So it's time for ex-athlete Keoghan to forge a career and earn some bread.
A spokesman for the Gaiety School of Acting told The Diary: 'David Keoghan is a private pupil of Patrick Sutton. He is not doing any particular course here but I have seen him here.
'The last time I saw him here was a couple of weeks ago. He comes here infrequently.' Success has so far eluded Keoghan. He once harboured ambitions of being a top hurdler and believed he might represent Ireland at the Olympic Games in Athens. …
