Driving Change - Higher Leadership and Management Skills Delivered in the Workplace


HARTLEPOOL College of Further Education has launched an innovative and nationally recognised approach to delivering bespoke leadership and management development to organisations.

Under the banner Driving Change, Hartlepool College has ripped up traditional ways of delivering higher level leadership and management skills and now made this more accessible via bespoke interventions based on an organisation's identified needs. This approach is particularly appealing to micro, small and medium sized enterprises who generally cannot afford to release key staff from their duties to attend college and university-based courses.

The senior management team at Nicholson's Transport Ltd was determined to implement the principles of the integration of higher skills into its own strategic planning. Based in Billingham, Nicholson's Transport Ltd is a family owned business which provides transport and warehouse services to clients throughout the UK.

The team at Nicholson's recognised that the qualifications available for senior managers in the sector were not designed with industry in mind, didn't meet specific industry needs and that its training needs were being neglected as a result.

With the help of Hartlepool College, the company set about developing a training model that was appropriate and development designed specifically for its industry. With a need to remain competitive and combat skills gaps it was vital that this project produced a flexible framework that allowed for appropriate delivery and improved engagement in this sector.
