World Theater Day for Children and Young People
More than a powerful means of increasing international and intercultural awareness, the theater connects young people across time and cultures, and allows them to gain a greater understanding of their own culture. Theater enables children and the young people to frame the world from a perspective where there are many ways in which they can view the world.To attract the attention of the greater public to the art of theater for children and young people, “World Day of Theater for Children and Young People,” is celebrated worldwide on March 20 each year.Throughout time, the theater has been essential to the human experience and is a unique tool to allow people to express and act out their feelings, connect with other cultures, and develop new insights. Theater enriches the quality of life by inspiring courage, enriching celebrations, and making tragedies tolerable. The development of theater for children and young people is uneven from country to country. Theater activities are largely concentrated in one or two areas, a situation that does not promise well for the future of the theater for children and young people. There must be ways to remedy this imbalance so there could be a global program in the theater for children and young people where the greatest beneficiaries will be the children of the world.
