He is the Irish man who famously helped Michael Flatley get back on his feet again. And now people from all over the world are coming to Ennis to visit Michael O'Doherty and his partner Tom Griffin at their Plexus Healthcare clinic.

The pair have treated hundreds of people from all over the world with their groundbreaking complimentary medicine techniques.

And Michael Flatley is just one of their success stories.

Michael O'Doherty said: "When we started years ago, we were doing clinics in different parts of the country.

"But we had our main practice in Ennis where a lot of our work was centred round helping sports people achieve their goals and also treating patients with different kinds of illness.

"Then when Michael Flatley went public about the benefits he got form what we did, things went crazy.

"I never anticipated such a response - there was huge interest in Ireland and from all over the world about what we were doing.

"So now we have our place in Ennis and we hold clinics in Cork and Dublin.

"We are also training therapists so that we have people all over the country."

The Plexus Bio-energy system was developed by Michael and Tom as through their love of martial arts.

"One of our instructors lived in Croatia and as a group we went to do a course with a man there who had developed a system to work with energy.

"When you administer an energy technique on the body you can actually measure its physiological response and the science of that is very well established.

"We came back to Ireland and we had no intention of setting up in business but we were practising these techniques on our friends.

"Things began spreading via word of mouth and the Late Late Show asked us on - for them we treated people with different conditions from strokes to asthma and that was how we started out because we got so many patients after that." For Michael Flatley, doctors could only say he had a mystery virus and told the star he would never dance again.

But Michael O'Doherty helped him to find his way back to health.

He said: "Michael had been on his own journey to recovery, he had put a lot of time and energy into looking after himself.

"But he said we got him back on his feet and he has just finished a very successful tour there. "The thing was that they couldn't diagnose what was wrong with him.

"Doctors told him it was a mystery virus of some kind but no-one knew what was going on and he was told: "What can we do?" "From my perspective what I felt was that form the enormous amounts of energy he expends in his shows and their creation, the effort it takes is phenomenal.

"And in my opinion the body can only take a certain amount and I felt Michael's system had just burnt out.

"We had to get the energy flowing in his body and then put a programme into place to assist his journey back to health.

"We worked with him for about nine months but he benefited and reacted well.

"And we never expected him to tell people about us - we actually weren't prepared for the reaction we would get."

And if you doubt what Michael might be saying, maybe think about the last time you had a sore head because you were worried or developed a stomach ache during a stressful time in work or at home.

He said: "It's not some amazing special gift.

"What we do is based on science that is well established and it is about your own ability to heal yourself.

"It is a principle that has been largely ignored in that human beings are made up of energy and there are esteemed medical professors who say the primary cause of disease is a breakdown in that energy system."

"And what we have developed is a series of techniques and programmes that we work with the energy system initially. …
